The FDNY Football Team's 35th season is off to a great start. The Bravest won their road opener over the Central Texas Wolfpack in Austin, Texas by a margin of 56-2. Every player on the BFC got to see some action, including first-year player Greg "Brucie Crisis" Pacifico who saw some run at quarterback. George Oostmeyer was almost "automatic" connecting on 6 of 7 extra points and a 23 yard field goal. Touchdowns were scored by seven different players including another first-year player, Khalid Martin, making it to the promised land. It wouldn't be right if all the scorers weren't mentioned, so here goes: Sean Schneider, Ernie Thompson, Paul Neuman, Joe Metress. Defensive T.D.'s were scored by Terence Halloran, and Michael Schroeter. The defense also registered two safeties. Speaking about the defense, they kept the shut-out until late in the game, but a bad snap on a punt attempt helped the Wolfpack to get on the board. The Bravest Football Club would like to express their deepest heartfelt "THANK YOU" to the Central Texas Wolfpack for their extreme generosity and hospitality. In twelve years on this team, this has been one of my greatest experiences on the road. The Bravest return home for a non-league game against the King's Bay Knights this Friday night, April 6th at The King's Bay Field in Brooklyn. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM.
The 2007 Bravest Football Club has moved to 2 - 0 in league play with a 31 - 0 victory over the Philadelphia Blue Flame. Paul Neuman scored from a yard out after newcomer Brian Vomero set up the field position with a spectacular diving catch of a 43 yard pass from Ryan Davan. George Oostmaeyer hit a 41 yard field goal. Ryan Davan had a one yard QB sneak. And, Anthony Aabatamarco rounded out the scoring for the offense. The defense pitched another gem shutting out the Blue Flame. The defense was led by Justin Zaleski who had a sack and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Come out and see the Bravest in two weeks when we take on the Phoenix Thunder once again at Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
The FDNY Bravest Fotball Club beat the reigning National Champion Phoenix Thunder 12 - 7 in a battle to the finish. The Bravest took the hardest route possible, winning the game with just 22 seconds left. For a team that hardly has difficulty with it's kicking game, George Ooestmeyer received little support from his cast with a bad snap and two blocks going against him. The Bravest had the opportunity to strike first in the 1st quarter, but a bad snap prevented Oostmeyer from hitting a 22 yarder. In the second quarter Phoenix got a big run from Shawn Watson and then connected with a TD pass to make it 7 - 0 going into the half. In the 3rd quarter, after being set up on a huge run by Paul Neuman, Ryan Davan connected with Brian Vomero on a 9 yard pass that Vomero had to lay out for. But, Oostmeyer's extra-point attempt was blocked, keeping the BFC down by 1. In the 4th quarter the Bravest had a chance to go ahead on a 14 yard field goal attempt, but Phoenix pushed through and were able to block the ball once more. The Bravest got the ball again with a little over two minutes in the game and drove hard with a couple runs by Quarterback Ryan Davan and a beautifully executed double-pass from Joe Metress to Vomero to keep the drive alive. With the score 7 - 6 and 26 seconds on the clock, Davan dropped back from the 5 and then ran it in on a delayed sneak to put the FDNY ahead to win the game.
The FDNY led off the scoring on their first drive after recovering a bloop opening kickoff that was bounced around through many players before being picked up just short of out of bounds by kicker George Oostmeyer. Paul Neuman ran the ball in from 7 yards out , then Oostmeyer knocked in the extra point. The Bravest rolled to an Oostmeyer field goal shortly after, but the NYPD converted a muffed field goal attempt late in the first half to make it 10 - 7 at halftime. The NYPD put up a score in the third quarter, but failed on the extra point. Then in the fourth quarter the NYPD closed the door adding seven more.
